Introductions & Op-Ed Format

Hi All!

Hope all is going well. I want to first thank yall for your interest in this blog. I know this is going to be a good publishing gang, as we'll have authorship coming in from the US and abroad. We are all from different socio-economical backgrounds and varying political opinions. This is a good thing, because I don't want this blog to be lackluster elephant walk where contributing authors all say the same thing-- in different ways. Our diversity will make it good!

A few of you have asked me about format/content, so I've done my due diligence on the other blogs out there. Many are just pulpits for a single opinion and unless we want this to become the same, think we should do something a bit unconventional to all the other political punditry.

Format : The Adversarial Op-Ed

Ideally , we'll have 1/2 of the authors writing articles, and the other 1/2 taking up the opposite position. It's an adversarial op-ed format. If you lean hard on the left, you may be asked to play devil's advocate on one of the published editorials. The last thing I want this to become is a soapbox for Fox News or MSNBC.

If I write an article against deforestation, I want the tree hugging supporter of Pelosi to argue FOR deforestation. I want the supporter of Bush to plot strategery against him. When we get really entrenched in our political position, we become complacent in thinking, and that's what I'm trying to uproot here.

I want us to become traitors to our beliefs-- if for only one article at a time. I believe this will help us understand what the other side is arguing about, and maybe some of us will come out with the Stockholm syndrome. Who knows!

The mission is for good dialogue where we challenge our own beliefs and have a debatable good time doing it. I've reserved the site: modern-meta.blogspot.com for us to begin composing.

Next: Confirmation & Pen Names

Just shoot me a message/comment on this blog letting me know you're good to go, and I'll draw straws to see which half of us goes first, and which half will refute the other.

Lastly, please come up with a pen name. It can be anything. Have fun with it. I'll be developing a page for contributing authors and it's just to give some background on education, interests, occupation, etc.
